As a proud owner of the Proton Iriz 2023 for the past three months, I can safely say that this car has been an interesting ride. Here’s my take on what the Iriz has to offer. I’m lucky to get the car from Ms Yen Furn for my first Proton car.
Starting with the performance, the Proton Iriz’s 1.3L petrol engine and CVT transmission make for a generally smooth and responsive drive. The engine displacement of 1597 cc provides a good balance of power and efficiency. Delivering 94 hp, the car has enough pep for city driving and handles highway speeds adequately. However, one downside I noticed is the CVT transmission can sometimes be noisy and a bit jerky, especially when driving at lower speeds or starting from a stop.
One of the best things about the Iriz is its ride and handling. The steering is precise, and the car holds the road well around corners, instilling a sense of confidence even on twisty routes. This is something Proton has consistently done well, and the 2023 Iriz is no exception.
The fuel economy, however, could be better. While not a gas guzzler, the Iriz doesn’t offer the best fuel efficiency in its class. So, if you’re someone who prioritizes fuel economy over other factors, this might be a point to consider.
Inside, the Proton Iriz offers a decently comfortable and practical cabin. The seating is comfortable for five, and the fabric upholstery is of good quality. While the car is not exactly luxurious, it is well-equipped with features that make everyday driving convenient. The power adjustable exterior rear view mirror, centrally mounted fuel tank, and adjustable seats add to the convenience factor.
I’ve also been quite pleased with the safety features in the Proton Iriz. The inclusion of power door locks, engine immobilizer, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, vehicle stability control system, traction control, crash sensor, and both driver and passenger airbags made me feel secure while on the road. However, I do wish that the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) were included in this model.
In terms of the multimedia system, the voice command head unit is quite fancy and user-friendly. However, I found the lack of touch screen a bit disappointing, considering it’s pretty standard in most cars these days.
All in all, the Proton Iriz 2023 is a solid car that offers a lot for its price point. It might not be the most economical or the most high-tech, but it delivers where it counts: a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable drive. Despite a few drawbacks, I’m pleased with my decision to go with the Iriz and look forward to more enjoyable driving experiences in the future.
